Description
Ateni Beach lies in the northeast of Andros, 12 km from Batsi. It is in fact two beautiful sandy beaches, with deep-blue shallow waters and sand dunes.
The beach suits every taste. Its waters are so shallow they feel like a swimming pool — you walk a long way before you are out of your depth — making it an ideal spot for children and one of the most popular beaches on Andros. Small Ateni on the left is unorganized and perfect for quiet, while Big Ateni on the right is more organized, with a beach bar and sunbeds.
Access is from the main road to Chora: turn left near Batsi toward the village of Katakoilos and, after Kato Katakoilo, left again toward the village and beach. The road is mostly asphalt, with dirt only for the last 2–3 km, though quite passable. Without exaggeration, one of the island's finest beaches.
Wind & Sea Conditions
Faces northeast and is exposed to the meltemi. Suitable even when strong winds blow from the south, southwest or west.
