Paraporti Beach lies just to the right of Chora, the main town of Andros — a long, sandy beach shaded by tamarisk trees. The little church of Agios Ermolaos clings to the rocks on the right, with a helipad just above. Here the Megalos (Great) River reaches the sea, springing from Stavropeda and running past the villages of Aladinou, Livadia and Baxedes.

The beach has a deep, wild sea that often builds high waves when the meltemi blows. Its sweeping view over the Chora peninsula, the Tourlitis lighthouse and the endless blue make it special, while inland the gaze runs from the gardens up to the monastery of Panachrantos.

A tavern operates next to the stadium. Wind and sun can be intense here, but that is simply the Andriot summer. Access is easy from the Chora pedestrian street, down the Theoskepasti stairs at Kairi square — about 130 steps bring you to the sand. You can also arrive by the road next to the Lyceum, or from Livadia along a narrow cement lane beside the river, under plane trees and poplars.
