Description
Kostas Loukisas returns to the Embeirikeio Gymnasium in Chora, two years after his first exhibition, with a new collection of paintings inspired by memories of old Andros. Why did the grandfather's mule go wild for three days when the neighbour passed away in the 1960s? Why did cargo ships once carry livestock pens at the stern? Who was Kriarantonis, the local character the children wouldn't stop teasing?
These are just some of the stories Loukisas lived, heard, or unearthed from old encyclopaedias. Today he transforms these memories into vivid paintings, each accompanied by short narratives that bring images of a bygone era back to life. Captions are available in both Greek and English, curated by Amalia Tiniakou.
Opening: Saturday July 11, 19:30. Exhibition runs July 11–29, 2026.
