Gyalia Beach lies at Stenies, a short distance from Chora. Poplars and plane trees reach the shore and, from the afternoon, shade almost the whole beach; a small river descending from Pithara at Apoikia also empties here.

The beach is covered in large pebbles (except its right side) and the sea is full of stones — ideal when the meltemi blows, as pebble does not whip up like sand. The water deepens steeply and the seabed is clean and impressive, so fins, water shoes and a mask come in handy. Caves on the right make swimming fun, while rocks on the left invite diving.

It sits right on the road, with plenty of parking and a picturesque restaurant nearby. The beach is organized, with a beach bar and sunbeds, and a short swim or walk takes you to neighbouring Piso Gialia. It is one of the most easily accessible beaches on Andros.

Wind & Sea Conditions

Faces east, next to Chora, and is exposed to the meltemi. Suitable even when strong winds blow from the south, southwest or west.
