Description
Apothikes Beach is a "deep" embrace of the sea on northwest Andros, on the road to Chalkolimionas below Stavropeda. It takes its name from the small sheds where boats were once kept in winter; right beside it lies Plaka beach.
A huge stretch of sand leads to deep, crystal-blue waters that, thanks to the rocks, are ideal for snorkelling, diving and spearfishing — the seabed is genuinely impressive. The waters are cool to cold, and the bare mountain above, with phrygana and fig trees, completes an authentic Cycladic landscape. The beach has a youthful buzz, with a bar/canteen and a lively scene.
Access is by dirt road on the north side of the island, left of Chalkolimionas beach: relatively passable but fairly long, so a high car or jeep helps. There is parking for several cars, and its magical beauty certainly rewards the effort.
