Description
Chrysi Ammos Beach, also known as Psili Ammos ("fine sand"), lies on western Andros between the port of Gavrio and cosmopolitan Batsi. One of the island's loveliest and most popular beaches, it was also one of Andros's first organized beaches.
Its golden, powder-fine sand gives the beach its name, and together with the blue-green waters it makes a setting of rare beauty. The natural shelter of its cove keeps it almost untouched by the August meltemi, so — being fairly short — it is nearly always full of Greek and foreign visitors.
It sits right on the main road from the port to Chora, just 2 km from Gavrio, immediately after the large Agios Petros beach. Easy access, a beach bar and a canteen rank it high among visitors, especially younger ones.
