Description
Vori Beach lies on the east side of Andros — remote and captivating in its wild beauty: white pebble, striking rock formations and, opposite, a small sandy cove, with a river and dense vegetation running down to the water.
It is ideal for snorkelling, as three of Andros's shipwrecks rest on its seabed — among them the Semiramis, which ran aground in 1996 and is slowly sinking. It is a superb spot for underwater exploration, though it calls for care and experience. Scenes from Pantelis Voulgaris's film Mikra Anglia were shot here. As the beach is not organized, bring an umbrella, water and snacks.
Access is by dirt road from Remata and the green mountain village of Arni, or alternatively from Vourkoti — closer, but a rougher drive. Along the way you will discover the island's mountainous interior and Byzantine chapels such as Agios Isidoros of Vourkoti.
