Description
Kossis taverna sits high up in Ano Fellos, in the mountains of northern Andros, just a few kilometres above the port of Gavrio. Standing alone on a hilltop with panoramic views of the Aegean, it has become one of the island's most beloved dining destinations.
This is a genuine taverna and farm, run by a family of livestock farmers. Most of the meat comes from their own production, and the difference is clear on the plate. The charcoal grill stars lamb chops, slow-roasted goat in parchment, local sausage, pork and beef steaks and handmade burgers, while generous fresh salads and hand-cut fries round off the meal perfectly.
A visit to Kossis is far more than a meal. Various farm animals live on the grounds, and there is even a horse that guests can ride — a detail that makes the experience especially memorable for younger visitors. Outdoor tables under the Andriot sky, the quiet of the countryside and the view towards the sea create a truly authentic setting.
Reaching the taverna is part of the adventure: follow the signs towards Fellos onto a winding asphalt road with harbour views, then a short dirt track leads to the taverna's sign, where a large parking area awaits. Kossis operates mainly at weekends and through the summer months, so a reservation is recommended, as it is a firm favourite among locals and visitors alike.
