The Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation presents "Germaine Richier (1902-1959) – Conversations" at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chora, Andros — a major summer exhibition devoted to one of the most important figures of 20th-century European sculpture.
Housed in the museum's west wing, the exhibition traces Richier's entire artistic journey, from her early training in the studio of Antoine Bourdelle to the radical sculptural language she developed, in which the human form merges with the animal, vegetal and mineral worlds. Richier was awarded the Blumenthal Prize and was the only woman sculptor included in MoMA's historic 1955 exhibition "The New Decade"; in 1956 the Musée national d'Art moderne in Paris devoted a major retrospective to her. The exhibition is curated by Marie Koutsomallis-Moreau and Laurence Durieu.
The exhibition runs from 14 June to 27 September 2026.
Opening hours: Monday 11:00-15:00, Wednesday-Sunday 11:00-15:00 & 18:00-21:00 (closed Tuesday).
Admission is 8€ / 5€ reduced; for information and reservations call +30 22820 22444.
Free admission on opening day, Sunday 14 June. From 1 to 16 August, free Greek-language guided tours run daily (12:00-12:40, except Tuesdays), and the exhibition is accompanied by a trilingual catalogue (Greek, English, French).
