Description
Ermis is a Café-Patisserie in Theophilos Kairis Square, at the heart of cosmopolitan Chora, the capital of Andros. Set inside a majestic early-20th-century stone building — a fine example of local Andriot urban architecture — it stands as a true landmark for residents and visitors alike.
Its prime location places it just steps from the Archaeological Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art (Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation), the historic marble fountain of 1818, the statue of Theophilos Kairis and the gateway to the old town. With one of the most beautiful outdoor seating areas in town, Ermis is perfect for relaxation, social meetings or a sweet break at any hour of the day.
The colourful interior, adorned with images and faces from around the world, pays tribute to the seafaring heritage and cosmopolitan culture of the Andriots. The name itself refers to the celebrated «Hermes of Andros» — a marble replica of the famous statue by Praxiteles, housed in the Archaeological Museum and originally discovered in the island's ancient capital of Paleopolis.
At the heart of Ermis is the Andriot pastry chef Evangelos Kaladamis, with formal training, awards and many years of experience. Driven by a love for authentic traditional flavours and a constant creative spirit, he keeps evolving his repertoire, offering sweets that balance tradition with modern indulgence — alongside coffee, snacks and bakery items throughout the day.
