Description
Chalkolimnionas Beach (Halkolimnionas) on Andros is one of the island’s most characteristic beaches, with golden sand, fine pebbles and crystal-clear turquoise waters. It lies almost in the centre of the island’s western coastline, approximately 24 km from Gavrio, 12 km from Chora, 15 km from Batsi and 21 km from Korthi, which makes it easily accessible and popular with both locals and visitors. The ideal time to visit is in the afternoon, when the sunset paints the sea in golden and orange tones.
Access to Chalkolimnionas Beach
Access to Chalkolimnionas Beach is very easy, as the road is paved all the way down to the sea. From the Stavropeda junction – where the roads from Gavrio, Chora, Batsi and Korthi meet – you simply follow the clear signposts and within a few minutes you arrive at the beach. The shape of the bay protects it from the northerly winds, while the gentle depth makes it family-friendly and suitable for children.
At one end of the beach you’ll find Copper Beach Bar, serving coffee, refreshing drinks, snacks and cocktails, as well as an organised area with umbrellas and sunbeds, while there is also a large free section for those who prefer to bring their own equipment. Chalkolimnionas offers ample parking space, toilets via the beach bar and rocky formations ideal for fishing or small explorations. Close to the beach you can also visit important archaeological sites, such as the Neolithic settlement of Strofilas and Zagora, as well as old mines that add historical interest to the area.
