The Andros Fire Brigade is located in Aprovato (close to Batsi) and operates under the Hellenic Fire Service. It serves as the primary Civil Protection body for the entire island.

Its mission is the safety and protection of life, property of citizens and the State, the natural environment and especially the forest wealth of Andros, from the risks of natural and technological disasters.

Its main responsibilities include:

• Suppression of forest and urban fires, plus operational fire-prevention planning
• Natural-disaster response (floods, earthquakes, strong winds, extreme weather)
• Search and rescue — extraction of people and animals from difficult terrain or settlements
• Fire-safety and inspections — enforcing fire-protection legislation, assisting arson investigations
• Civil Protection coordination with the Municipality, Police and Coast Guard during crises
