The Museum of Folklore and Christian Art is housed in the old ice cream parlor of Mantzavelakis at the entrance of Chora, at the Paradise Hotel. It presents exhibits from the traditional life of Andros and copies of Christian art. On the ground floor is depicted a traditional Andriotic house, traditional professions of the island, and products.

Museum of Folklore and Christian Art – Exhibits

The exhibition of objects of Christian Art is housed in the old oil mill upstairs. The exhibits are dated from the 18th and 19th centuries. The exhibition is divided into three sections, hagiography, ecclesiastical silversmithing, and carved wooden church altars. The Lemon Festival on Holy Saturday and the Andros Wine, Cheese, and Yeast Bread Festival on the eve of the Holy Spirit have become an institution at the Museum.

The exhibits of the Museum of Folklore and Christian Art in Chora of Andros are divided into three themes. Firstly, “The Andrian house”, with exhibits dealing with traditional daily life in an Andrian house. Secondly “the products and professions of Andros”. Finally, the icons, ecclesiastical silversmith’s works, and wood-carved temples from the churches of Andros.
