Andros KoinSEp hosts Jan Van Angelopoulos and Fotis Siotas in its courtyard on Sunday 26 July at 22:00. General admission is 12 euro, with advance tickets through ticketservices.gr.
The two met writing music for the production "Cotton Roots" at the Athens and Epidaurus Festival in 2022, and that work grew into the album "Folks Nowadays" in 2023. They start from the form of the traditional zygia and improvise from there. Siotas's violin and voice meet Angelopoulos's drums and modular synthesisers in a sound that keeps its Greek starting point while borrowing effects and low electronic frequencies from the contemporary scene.
Fotis Siotas has played alongside Sokratis Malamas and Thanasis Papakonstantinou since 1993, with more than a hundred records to his name. Jan Van Angelopoulos studied jazz drums at Codarts in Rotterdam and has spent recent years working with eurorack modular systems, most recently on "Monomania in Stereo Field", released this June.
The venue has its own story. The courtyard at Kato Chones was the derelict "Lady" nightclub until 2021, when KoinSEp restored it and reopened it as a cultural space.
