The Andros Forestry Office is based in Batsi (near the village bridge) and operates under the Cyclades Forestry Directorate. It is the local authority for the protection and management of the island's natural environment.

Its responsibilities include:

• Forestry permits — issuing documents for clearing private plots and land
• Forest maps and land use — information and case handling
• Environmental protection — monitoring illegal logging, poaching and unauthorised construction on forest or reforestable land
• Wildlife management — issues relating to livestock, crop damage and grazing
• Civil protection — cooperation with the Municipality, Fire Service and volunteer groups for forest-fire prevention and suppression
